Arlene Gray: Cranial Prosthesis Specialist, Orlando Florida

I began my career as an Administrative Assistant many years ago at The Brooklyn Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. After eight years of corporate work, I didn’t feel fulfilled.

I decided to change my career goals and dived into caregiving in the capacity of a Nursing Assistant, I was driven by a desire to make a meaningful impact in people's lives. I later pursued a Cosmetology career at Wilfred Academy and obtained my cosmetology license in New York City.

Seeking further expertise and knowledge, I continued my learning journey at Dudley University in North Carolina, where I refined my skills and deepened my understanding of the Beauty Industry. I later moved to Orlando Florida where I owned and operated my own hair salon for 15 years while teaching Cosmetology at a Fortis University in Jacksonville, Florida.

Presently, I proudly serve as a Cosmetology Coordinator at Walt Disney World, where I provide leadership and direction to cast members in my group along with styling wigs for performers. Additionally, I devote my expertise to helping clients obtain medical wigs after losing their hair due to medical illnesses at OGP Medical Wigs.

Apart from my entrepreneurial pursuits, community service is an integral part of my mission. Volunteering comes naturally to me, and it allows me to offer care and support to those who need it.

Whether I am styling wigs for the American Cancer Society or conducting workshops on makeup application at the Look Good Feel Better Program in Orlando, my primary objective has always been to provide comfort, support, and a sense of normalcy during difficult times.

Arlene, what do you enjoy as a Cranial Prosthesis Specialist?

As a Cranial Prosthesis Specialist, I enjoy seeing my clients smile and their eyes light up when I turn them towards the mirror after completing the wig styling. You can't put a price tag on the Joy that a woman feels when she looks amazing! This makes my day.

How do you want to help your clients who need a cranial prosthetic unit?

I aim to support my clients in reclaiming their sense of self during chemotherapy or radiation treatment. This involves offering medical-grade wigs, including helping them navigate the process of utilizing their medical insurance to cover the costs.

I realized that many clients can't access my services because of physical limitations, health or geographical limitations so I decided to extend my services. I am now mobile! I now travel locally and internationally to serve my clients. I approach every client with empathy and a commitment to making them feel beautiful and empowered throughout the process.

Do you also install medical grade wigs?

Yes. Installing medical grade wigs is my expertise.

What do you love about the community you work and live in?

I love living in Orlando, Florida because of the diverse mix of people and cultures that make our city so special.

It's like a big, welcoming family where everyone is celebrated. There's so much to do, see and enjoy in Orlando. I love the weather here. Most of our days are sunny. Yes, living in a warm state has its perks.

I adore the sense of community. Whether I'm at a theme park, the beach, or a my favorite restaurant there are always friendly smiling faces which gives me a feeling of togetherness. Being a local in a place others dream of visiting gives me a vacation vibe daily.

This experience has been amazing so far. I've met people from different backgrounds and heard their recovery stories. It feels great to be able to provide comfort and share my expertise in a way that makes a difference.

My goal is to expand my services to Africa and the Caribbean to give as many people as I can an opportunity to have a medical wig and experience the joy of looking their best!
